Play Kitchen/ Fukuichi Jap Dining

Last Friday, I felt really tired because I had to manage all my mentor's classes alone :c I was rushing from class to class and some of the students were not helping at all. I struggled. I hope I won't feel the same after I had graduated from NIE :c

Over the weekend, I went to 2 new eating places haha- Play Kitchen and Fikuichi Jap dining place. Play kitchen is actually opened by Ben Yeo, this mediacorp artist, and it is located inside JP One's kopitiam. I heard him talking about it over the radio and it sounded quite good hahaha so I went to try a day after. We had the suckling chicken aglio olio and the carbonara. The carbonara was not very creamy (so you won't feel very gelard after eating the whole plate). I personally like it creamier with bacon bits hahahaha. The suckling chicken was nice...but quite normal. He mentioned over the radio that the skin was ultra crispy but the skin was super thin on the chicken I had. It was like grilled crispy chicken.. When he said suckling chicken, I thought of the thick crispy skin on the suckling pork la hahaha so my expectation was higher. Nonetheless, it was still crispy though not very shiok hahahaha. The aglio was nice though! It was garlicky enough to my liking and not overly spicy. Overally, with the kopitiam 10% discount, it was very cheap and worth the money!
The black pepper sauce was redundant because it was so tasteless x.x ($8.90)
$7.90

On Saturday, I went to town with Min because it was pay day HAHAHA. I wanted to get this pair of pedro flats but it was rather uncomfortable. We went to Fukuichi Japanese Dining place for lunch. It is located at Triple One Somerset, the one behind Somerset Mrt station. The restaurant was spacious and not crowded at all, very quiet much to my liking. The food was affordably priced and selection of maki was not bad. I really like those creative maki because they're so yum! hehehe. Anyway, we ordered the following:

Salmon Sashimi (it was fresh but could have gotten better quality ones at a lower price elsewhere- $15)

Kani Tofu ($6)- One of the chef's recommended items. It did not look very appetizing when it was served. The portion was minute. hahaha. This is tofu, infused with crab meat, and drenched with century egg sauce. The combination was awesome. It was firm and every mouthful of it was filled with the crabmeat! We realised that the minute portion was just nice for us to appreciate this dish in small mouthfuls hahaha.

Gyuniku Fagura Sauce/ Beef in Foie Gras Sauce ($35)- Another one of chef's recommended dish. I really like this dish because the beef was amazingly tender. It was grilled to perfection and you could taste the juiciness of the beef when you bite into it. Together with the sauce, the dish was a real thumbs up. Whoop!!

Seared Salmon Roll ($22)- We mistook this for one of the chef's recommended dish and ordered it. However, we did not regret it because it was really good, like good on its own good. hahah. The salmon was really fresh and it matches really well with the other ingredients (I believe it was cucumber, avocado and crabmeat).

Spider Maki ($16)- This dish was a little dry in our opinion. However, the soft shell crab was crispy with every bite and it tasted good also. Comparing the salmon roll with this, I would prefer or recommend the former to my friends hahaha because I've had better spider maki (opps)!

I would definitely go back for its Kani Tofu and maybe try the other makis and of course for its ambience! Fukuichi is a very good place for catching up with friends and family or for a date because it's so quiet! Note that the restaurant closes at 3pm (last order at 2.30pm) and then reopens at 6pm for dinner.I would definitely recommend this place to all!
