Chikuwa Tei/ Standing Sushi Bar

About a month ago, Min took me to Chikuwa Tei for sushi and sashimi. She had googled and apparently it is quite famous for their set meals. The set meals are affordable in my opinion ranging from $12 for their chasoba set (i think) to about $25 for Chirashi sushi set. For Chirashi set, I think $25 is really worth it. I sneaked a peep to the table beside us and the set looked quite huge! We didn't order that set cause we wanted to order a variety of food to share! We ordered Salmon Sashimi ($10), Soft Shell Crab, Agedashi Tofu, Chasoba with tempura prawns set, Garlic fried rice, ok that's all. Quite a lot right! We were so stuffed after the meal! The sashimi deserves a mention. Thickly sliced and omg oh so fresh. It's really damn good. The other dishes were average only (The soft shell crabs had an oily taste to it:/). We spent around $85 for the meal. There is another Jap restaurant just across the road, En Jap Restaurant, and they have this 50% off sashimi and sushi deal everyday! And and they open till 3am I think! Would definitely try their food soon and of course, when we have cravings for Jap cuisine at odd times hahaha!

OMG I would go back for this!!!

So a month later... We decided to head to Standing Sushi Bar because of their 50% off sashimi and sushi! Who can resist leh seriously. The promo is only on every Tuesday (apparently they have $3 sashimi on Mondays, even cheaper omg). We went to try out the food and it was, once again, average only :c We ordered 2 servings of salmon sashimi (fresh but wah the ones from chikuwa tei still owns but shant complain too much about it since it's 50% off hahaha!), Puff a dragon sushi roll, fried salmon skin, garlic rice and grilled eel! Grilled eel was very shiok but exceptionally salty hahaha. Puff a dragon sushi roll was nice but the prawn was not freshly fried. It was soggy, so the crunch was not there, so sad :< Garlic rice was good! Much more fragrant than the one we had at Chikuwa Tei! Salmon skin, should not have ordered this (Very oily and they charge an additional $1 for mayo :<). The service was soso (Service at CT was good! Very smiley and even asked how the food was). The staff had originally sat us at the bar counter which we did not like. We requested for table seats but were told that those were reserved already. BUT BUT after we placed our orders, they shifted us to the table zzzz. So I'm guessing they look at how much you order before deciding to shift you or not, tsk.

AHH! Would come back for this! So cheap! (Usual price: $12 fro 5 slices)

Tempura prawn rolled in eel, look at the dragon head hahaha

Serving.Too.Pathetic.

Oh! We wanted to order chawanmushi but it was ridiculously priced at $6 for the plain one I think. zzz Overall, the meal was about $50++ I think haha. We are going to try Koh Grill & Sushi Bar at Wisma this coming weekend. Very excited for it since it seems like the whole world is raving about it hahaha. Have been procrastinating my visit there, so this weekend we shall head there!!!!
